Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Prepare for wood chip screening
  • Determine job requirements from work order or instructions and, where required, check with appropriate personnel
  • Confirm workplace health and safety and environmental protection practices and/or procedures for task, including use of personal protective equipment
  • Identify and assess hazards and take actions to mitigate risks related to operation of wood chip screening system
  • Confirm type and quantity of wood chips to be screened from production process
  • Complete pre-operational checks on wood chip screening system according to manufacturer instructions and workplace procedures
  • Start wood chip screening system according to workplace procedure
  • Set and adjust operating parameters to achieve production requirements
       
Element: Monitor and control performance of wood chip screening system
  • Monitor product quality, plant performance and process according to workplace procedures
  • Monitor screening continually for matter that may cause contamination
  • Monitor conveyor operations and clear jams to ensure free flow of output material to transfer systems
  • Maintain incoming chip supply to match downstream production requirements
  • Identify operating and equipment faults and malfunctions, and take corrective action as required
  • Check output chips for conformity with quality specifications and production requirements
       
Element: Perform operator maintenance on wood chip screening system
  • Shut down and isolate wood chip screening system according to workplace health and safety procedures
  • Clean wood chip screening system according to manufacturer instructions
  • Conduct visual inspection of wood chip screening system according to workplace procedures
  • Check condition of wood chip screening system components
  • Dispose of waste according to workplace environmental protection practices and/or procedures
  • Record and report system faults and maintenance requirements to appropriate personnel

Assessment Tasks
